Instructional Coach

Mom to Jack, Lou and Baby #3

What did you struggle with most about returning to work after having your kids?

“Feeling part of the community. ”

Feeling part of the community. I missed the end of the school year being off for leave and coming back in the fall was challenging. I felt 'out of the loop'. I also struggled with finding the balance to pump while at work to maintain my supply. Sleep deprivation was a real struggle too!

What do you find difficult about being a working parent?

The cost of childcare and missing out on the majority of their time during the week.

What do you enjoy about being a working parent?

Eating my lunch uninterrupted and adult connections and interactions.

After being back at work for some time, have your views about career and family changed?

Not really. I believe being a teacher presents a special opportunity for parents. I have almost 3 months off during the summer, which has been a nice taste of what it might be like to stay home, but I look forward to returning to school in the fall.

Knowing what you know now, what’s one thing you wish you could go back in time and tell yourself as you were preparing to return to work or getting ramped up in your role?

"Every phase is temporary - the good and the bad, so enjoy the small moments and hold on tight for the tough ones."

It's the advice I give most new Moms now and remind myself regularly. Every phase is temporary - the good and the bad, so enjoy the small moments and hold on tight for the tough ones - they all pass (some too quickly).
